Nonprofit Board Consultant Edes Gilbert

Serving nonprofit organizations dedicated to the arts, education, girls or women's issues.

In today’s rapidly changing world, board and administration structures need to be designed to create maximum flexibility and the ability to respond promptly and thoughtfully while they support progress toward the stated mission .

One example of such a structure might be to create task forces around strategic issues instead of the more traditional committees.

Organizations can be more effective by clearly stating “job descriptions” for trustees, expectations for committees and task forces, and implementing a clear, annual self-evaluation process for the board as well as regular evaluations of the Executive Director/ Head. Often, an objective third party can be helpful in facilitating the development of these statements and processes.

Transparency of procedures and outcomes is essential to a successful outcome for all boards and administrations, whatever their structure.

In my work, I adapt these basic principles of organization and procedures to the needs of each particular client organization.
