Nonprofit Board Consultant Edes Gilbert

 Serving nonprofit organizations dedicated to the arts, education, girls or women's issues.

Strategic planning positions organizations to be as effective as possible.

practical and efficient strategic plan highlights critical resources and objectives.

A strategic planning effort needs to achieve success in three areas;

plan development, communication and measurement.

  • The plan must be developed and bought into by the board and key executives.  It must be complete, practical and support the mission of the organization.  It must also specify realistic objectives supported by needed resources.
  • Once approved, it must be clearly communicated to the organization so that the management levels understand their objectives and their roles in attaining them.
  • Finally, there needs to be an effective measurement process in place to track the progress toward the goals and communicate that throughout the organization.

Having been the head of two successful nonprofits, I am intimately familiar with all three project phases.  Software packages alone can not comprehend the human dynamics or organizational capabilities that are vital to the successful development and implementation of a strategic plan.
